Legal

We get it. You see that word and now you’re intimidated. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Business legal advice has evolved a lot. There are services out there to make signing documents and covering your proverbial backside a lot easier. Here’s our pick of the best (and cheapest!)

Do you really need to sign things in person to close a deal? Nope. HelloSign is just as legal as putting pen to paper, letting you digitally sign NDAs, client agreements, and contracts.

Who’s it for?

Freelancers and small businesses that work remotely.

Good bits

  • Easily use your saved signature to sign documents without printing pages or sending them off in the post.
  • Create secure documents for your own clients to sign.
  • The eSignatures are just as legal as written ones, so you can sit back knowing you’re protected.

Not so good bits

  • Some people still need a bit of convincing when it comes to digital signatures.

Prices: Pro accounts cost $15 and $50 a month.

The free version includes 3 documents a month, which could be plenty for most freelancers and small businesses. If you need unlimited documents, you can try the paid accounts free for 30 days.

The idea of legal help probably makes you imagine massive hourly rates. Instead, LegalZoom charges an affordable monthly fee to match you with an experienced solicitor who can help you tick off your official responsibilities.

Who’s it for?

Small businesses feeling under confident about the ‘big things’.

Good bits

  • Get legal help for a much cheaper price.
  • Depending on how much you pay, you’ll have access to all the legal documents you need, the accounting essentials, and even property advice.
  • LegalZoom deal with personal legal stuff too. If you like working with them, they can help you sell your house.

Not so good bits

  • Some reviewers have been unhappy with the speed of communication.

Prices: Paid accounts cost £8.99 to £99.99.

The cheapest account is literally called ‘No Frills’, so it only includes the things you need to start trading. For fraud prevention tools and VAT help, you’ll need to pay for the more expensive packages.

JustAnswer: Law

Ask a legal question and you’ll get a response from a real UK-based solicitor. You can ask a general legal question, or get more specific with employment and property law queries.

Who’s it for?

Small businesses with legal questions.

Good bits

  • Talk to a solicitor quickly and easily.
  • Lots of people on Trustpilot are happy with the quality of advice they received.

Not so good bits

  • There are some hidden costs. You won’t know the price until you’ve asked your question and received a reply from one of the solicitors.
  • JustAnswer deals with family law and conveyancing too, so some of the solicitors won’t specialise in the kind of law you’re interested.

Prices: Price depends on how complicated your legal question is.

According to the Just Answer FAQ, it could cost anything from £5 to £500.

Create privacy policies and terms and conditions you can trust. If you have a website that uses people’s data, you need to get this right. It doesn’t cost much with Termsfeed though!

Who’s it for?

Small businesses and freelancers selling online or collecting customer data.

Good bits

  • Protect you and your business with all the essential documents.
  • It’s cheaper than hiring a freelancer or lawyer to write up the documents for you.
  • The original document templates are free!

Not so good bits

  • Prices are hidden until you start customising your documents, so it’s hard to know how much it will cost in total.

Prices: Price depends on the document.

The basic documents are free. For different clauses and added details, Termsfeed charges you per document.
